The last past 2 years I have been looking, looking hard to find the jewel
within the pile of rubbish. And it even scared me that so many games were
I thought that they would be the answer to my prays were even not what I
had hoped they would be. I played Blue Dragon, Zelda Twilight Princess,
Bioshock, PGR4, Metroid Prime 3 and many others! All were nice but they
just miss something, something important. And it only came to my
understanding that what I missed was magic. Not like the magic we see
with Harry Potter or Hans Klok. No I am talking about the feeling that your
part of something good something big or something special! Maybe you are
thinking now what I am talking about a new game that isn’t released yet
but it is. Now that is a bit of a giveaway isn’t it? I am talking about Super
Mario Galaxy. Like gravity pulling me in to this game I was utterly amazed
by this game’s gravity system. I kind of lost hope in ever seeing a game
like this but here it is. Here upon our own planet, universe, galaxy! Yet
here it is!!

Image

Super Mario Galaxy is more than bright colors and happy faces. It’s even
more than a casual platformer. Now we all agree that the Wii still feels a bit
gimmicky but this game makes you forget all that. It lets you feel that this
game is actually doing with the Wii what it supposed to be doing. The
controls still need the casual shaking and pointing. But unlike any other you
will be doing it without you even realizing it! It was from the realization of
that that I found out this game has done the seemingly impossible. Pretty
soon you will be running jumping and flipping off and over the planets of
this amazing galaxy. Solving problems and finding new ways to get to the
place you want to go. Sure Mario still loves to do a jump on the Goomba’s
head and he still throws shells at every one he doesn’t like.

Image

So that is some of the cool and fun things in this game that brings back the
magic to gaming. But that is not everything! It looks like the Wii is capable
of some amazing textures and graphics after all. And there is a story line in
the game (that you luckily can skip) not that it is that important but it gives
a nice twist to it. Sure enough you don’t have to expect book works of
story lines nor Oscar winning scripts. Still thanks to its simplicity and the
way the game plays and controls you will be sucked in this game pretty
soon. Another nice thing in this game is the way another player can help
you on your quest to get all the stars in this galaxy. By pointing and
clicking on enemy’s you can stun them, of when you grab busses you can
find coins and star sprites. And these star sprites you can use again to
shoot something.

It is not usual that I do a review and maybe this isn’t a real review but I
want to score this game any way.

Now let’s see things in perspective the Wii is less powerful than the 360 and
PS3 so we can’t compare games visually. But still Mario Galaxy amazes
me, it amazed me even a lot! There fore ill rate this game on its visuals
first.

Image

Visuals: 94%

The visuals is definitely one of the best ever seen on the Wii. But I still
think there is more the Wii can do. Nintendo is just building up the visual
power as usual.

Sound: 95%

The game sound and sound effects fit the game. The tunes are really good
and you will find yourself pleasantly humming the songs after a while.

Playability: 93%

Great fun but still sometimes the camera positions can’t be influenced if
you want it to be, creating small problems sometimes. But you will soon
forget them because of the game simply incredibly well made and
balanced.

NiSuTe Value system (N.V.S.): 100%

(Let me explain how this works. In this case the game costs 50,- euro, and
we always say here at NiSuTe that a game costing 50 euro has to have at
least 50 hours of game play if it does just that you will score 90% if it
surpasses that and even might double it you will score 100% )

This game can be finished with only 60 stars in the pocked. And that might
take you like 45 to 60 hours of game play. But to get all the stars is where
the real games power leis. That is why I (remember a review is always
personal to the writer) give this game’s N.V.S. 100%

As a total ill score this game:

Total Score: 96%

Good one, Maik.

I haven't played the game yet, myself, so I'm kind of anctious to know how it plays and if it is as much fun as Mario 64 was back then. :P

Nice story Maik.
But I disagree with you on some parts. (Yes I keep in mind that this review is your personal view).
The part that was annoying me was the gameplay. I was getting dizzy playing on the smaller planets. And I don't seem to get the controls the way they should work.
About the Music. Nothing new, but as you said it fits the game.
Visuals are ok and the NVS as you called it (nice name btw) I agree with you. But then again tell me a single Mario title that didn't have that, they have always been as long as you want them to be.

I wasn't really impressed with Super Mario Sunshine if you want (the only?) title in that category.

No matter how you aproach it, Super Mario Galaxy will be compared with Super Mario Sunshine.

Sunshine would get a score of 87% as for Mario 64 would get 95%
